New Features in version 1.1

Creation Date: February 1, 2000

Summary: This document outlines changes/enhancements/fixes that have been incorporated in the latest version of BioWin (version 1.1.0). This document was written in response to queries we have had from customers who have received updates to older versions (e.g. versions 1.0.1, 1.0.1a). To see which version of BioWin you have, start BioWin and choose the About... command from the Help menu.

Feature Comments / Notes
New Process Module: Sequencing Batch Reactor
BioWin now incorporates 5 types of SBR, which can be broken down into three classes: basic SBR, SBRs with hydraulically linked settleable prezones, and SBRs with hydraulically linked always-mixed prezones.
New Process Module: Variable Volume Bioreactor This new process module is useful for simulating start-up response of a biological process.
Charting Enhancements
  1. Series List editor, which allows the following manipulations to be performed on a group of series contained in a chart:

    • Change the series order;
    • Show/hide series;
    • Change series color;
    • Change series type.

  2. New bar styles for bar charts: arrow and color gradient rectangle.

  3. Additional options for editing appearance of various series types.

  4. Additional options for editing the series grid.

  5. 3-D options tab, which allows the following manipulations to be performed on a 3-D chart:

    • 3-D zoom;
    • 3-D rotation;
    • 3-D elevation;
    • Horizontal and vertical offset;
    • 3-D perspective;
    • Orthogonal view and text view.
Maximum Airflow For process modules which may be aerated (such as Bioreactors), BioWin now allows the specification of a "Maximum airflow". You can use this to set a limit on the airflow that BioWin uses to achieve a DO setpoint. This is useful for investigating the ability of aeration equipment to meet a target DO setpoint and DO "sag" analysis under dynamic loading conditions.
Itinerary Column Clear You can now clear an entire column of an itinerary with one mouse-click, rather than deleting entries one-by-one.
Date Formats BioWin now works with additional custom Windows Date Format settings. All standard Date Format settings are still supported.
Constant Influent Itinerary Flow Units Flow units are now shown in a constant influent itinerary.
Influent Itinerary Units Concentration units are now shown in both constant and variable influent itineraries.
Influent Data File Display The path and name of the last influent data file loaded into an influent element itinerary is displayed as a property of the influent element.
More Information in Element Info Displays Nitrate, phosphate, and other state variables/compounds have been added to these displays.
Database Inventory Management You can now delete data that you have separately imported to the BioWin database.
Aeration Details Table You can now quickly add an aeration details table for Bioreactors, SBRs, and Aerobic Digesters.
Local Model Switching Functions In addition to local kinetic model parameters, elements may now also have local model switching function parameters.
